H4 Ead Renewal: International employee working in United States will definitely know whether his or her EAD is renewable since in some cases it can or not be renewed.
However let’s discuss H4 EAD Renewal, for many have asking many unanswered questions because this process seems a bit complicated but doable.
H4 EAD RENEWAL
Renewal should done before the expiry date
If it is that H4-EAD is in a position to be renewed, then the employee should ensure that the application is filed with USCIS at least 100 days before the expiry date of the current one. It is good and advisable to note that pending EAD application does not provide permission to work until it is once more in your possession. The only person that can be exempted from this rule is F-1 Students who is a STEM-OPT eligible; such a student is only allowed to work within his/her area of degree or can work for those enrolled into E-verify system.
Though there is still a new rule being worked on, this would allow automatic employment authorization for 180 when EAD renewal is still pending.
Date Start’s when it expires
In case your H4 EAD expires in a given month then you apply for renewal on a different month, then the start date begins at the date of its expiry. H4 EAD processing time with USCIS is expected to be at least 90 days from the date of application.
H4 EAD Renewal Fee; During both registration and renewal the applicant is expected to pay a fee of U.S Dollar 410 which should be paid to U.S Department of Homeland Security, either in cash or using credit card.
2 Identical Photographs; The size of the photographs must be 2×2 inch taken within the last 30 days with your name and i94 number or Alien registration number at the back, it should be written on a pencil.
Form G 1145; This is optional, however, it can be used in case you want to receive an email or text that your application has been received and being processed.
Form I-765; Application for Employment Authorization.
H4 Status Proof;
Provide a copy of H4 Visa holder’s most recent I-797 Approval or i-94 copy. It should be attached with your H4 extension approval.
Government-issued ID document
- Copy of Passport’s front with Photo and back pages with an address or
- Copy of USA H4 Visa stamp page from Passport OR
- A copy of your last EAD– Both front and back or
- A birth certificate with photo ID or
- Any other nationalidentity document with photo.
H4 Status Proof
This should be done by providing the most recent copy of H4-Visa holder I-797 approval, though if you have done extension recently, then you are at liberty to use extension approval or i-94 copy(most recent). This should be attached with your H4 extension approval.

A copy of marriage certificate should be issued, jotted in your country in English.
However beyond 6 years
AC21 106 (a) AND (b), copy of H-1B spouse’s passport, prior form I-94, current and prior Forms I-797 which is really H-1B status approval should be provided.
